I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, Ghana. I hold a PhD in Parasitology from the University of Cape Coast and both an MPhil in Clinical Microbiology and BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. My research focuses on malaria epidemiology, molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases, parasite biochemistry, antimicrobial resistance and host–pathogen interactions, particularly the molecular and immunological mechanisms of Plasmodium falciparum infections and malaria pharmacogenetics. My work integrates molecular biology, clinical microbiology and epidemiology to improve infectious disease surveillance and develop innovative diagnostic tools for resource-limited settings.
I have expertise in advanced biomedical and molecular laboratory techniques, including PCR, gene sequencing, flow cytometry and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). I have published widely in reputable international journals and serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS One and BMC Infectious Diseases, in addition to reviewing for several international journals. I have gained international research exposure through specialized training at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (Tokyo, Japan), Universal Pathology Laboratory (Durban, South Africa), the Centre for Vaccines and Immunology (Johannesburg, South Africa), and the Malaria Genome Laboratory at the Wellcome Sanger Institute (Hinxton, United Kingdom).
I have supervised over 30 undergraduate students, 12 MPhil students and 5 PhD students at UHAS and the University of Cape Coast. I also promote innovation and entrepreneurship, coordinating the NEIP Adwumawura Training Project and supporting student innovation through the UGBS THINK Ghana Network. I currently serve as a Principal Investigator for the laboratory trial of the Lollisponge saliva-based diagnostic device for infectious disease detection, funded by Copan Italia, with research aimed at advancing non-invasive diagnostics and translational approaches for infectious diseases in low-resource settings.
