Dr. Adam is a senior lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Health (FCH) at the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health of the University of Health and Allied Sciences. Dr. Adam joined the university and the department in January 2015 and has worked collaboratively with all faculty and staff as a team member. He teaches core undergraduate courses, leads postgraduate courses in Gender, Global and Adolescent Health Policies and Programs and heads the Reproductive and Child Health unit in the department. He is actively engaged in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
Dr. Adam’s research focuses on reproductive and adolescent health, with a keen interest in HIV/AIDS prevention education, HIV/AIDS stigma and social support, maternal and child health, adolescent reproductive health rights and gender and health. His research interests also include social dimensions of reproductive cancers (breast, prostate & cervical cancer) diagnosis and treatment. He is working on channels to promote collaboration between conventionally trained medical practitioners and various associations of traditional medicine practitioners in Ghana to promote early reporting and diagnosis of breast and other cancers in Ghana.
Recognizing how ethical issues impact health delivery, clinical decision-making and research, he developed a keen interest in clinical and research ethics over the years. He is currently a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow/Scholar in Clinical Medical Ethics at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. His goals for the fellowship are to evaluate and advocate for more clinical medical ethics in medical education curricula and to study ethical organ donation and transplantation systems and their implementation in developing and resource-limited settings. Dr. Adam holds a PhD in Public Health and a Master of Science in Clinical Research Administration, both from Walden University, USA. He also obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, USA. He obtained a First-Class Honors degree in Population and Family Life Education at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Prior to these, Dr. Adam was trained and registered as a professional teacher at the Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education, Bimbilla.
