I am a pharmaceutical chemist, a medicine quality advocate and an academic pharmacist with over a decade of experience across academia and pharmaceutical manufacturing. I am currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, School of Pharmacy at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ghana. I lecture in several pharmaceutical chemistry courses, undergraduate and postgraduate level.
My research centers on enhancing the quality and safety of medicines and vaccines with a particular focus on (bio)analytical method development, medicine quality surveillance systems and African traditional medicines standardization. I am actively engaged in vaccine biomanufacturing education and policy development, served on UHAS Vaccine Researchers Group and contribute to the PharmaVax Ghana Programme, which is a national effort co-funded by the European Union and Germany to strengthen Ghana’s vaccine production ecosystem.
My doctoral research was supported by the German Research Council (DFG) and focused on analytical specifications development for Ghanaian herbal medicines and this has informed contributions to regional pharmacopoeia frameworks. I am also committed to developing standards and analytical procedures that build quality into Ghanaian and African herbal medicines. My scientific output includes over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles in Phytochemistry, PlosOne, Frontiers in Pharmacology, Planta Medica, Scientific African etc. I also serve as a peer reviewer for several journals including the likes of Phytomedicine, Scientific Reports, Food Chemistry X, PlosOne, Frontiers in Plant Science, Analytical Chemistry Letters, Industrial Crops & Products, among others.
I have also served as an invited speaker at international conferences and webinars such as the FIP Digital Events and the African Phytomedicine Scientific Society Congress.
As a recipient of multiple Fleming Fund grants on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) (CwPAMS), I co-led projects that sought to integrate medicine quality assurance and data analytics into AMS practice in the community and hospital settings. I champion innovative education, coordinate postgraduate programmes in pharmaceutical chemistry, and supervise doctoral, MPhil, and undergraduate research across pharmaceutical analytics, bioinformatics and herbal drug development.
I actively involved in professional development and policy advocacy and currently, I serve as the General Secretary of the Academia, Social and Research Pharmacists Association (ASRPA) under the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana. I also serve on the National Technical Advisory Committee for medicine safety at the FDA. Additionally, I serve as an expert member on the Expert Working Group No. 13B (Herbal Drugs and Herbal Drug Preparations) of the European Pharmacopoeia Commission, Europe.
With a growing portfolio in vaccine quality research, biomanufacturing training and multisectoral health innovation, I am keen to engage in global collaborations focused on strengthening health product quality systems in Africa and beyond.
