Dr. Gregory Kofi Amenuvegbe is a public health specialist, field epidemiologist and academic with over 30 years of professional experience in disease surveillance, communicable disease control, epidemiology, immunization and health systems strengthening. He is a Lecturer at the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), where he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students and contributes to research, curriculum development and community engagement.
Prior to joining academia, Dr. Amenuvegbe served with the Ghana Health Service in several leadership roles, including Technical Officer for Epidemiology and Disease Control, Regional Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Coordinator, Regional HIV/AIDS Coordinator and Regional Malaria Coordinator in the Volta Region. His extensive experience bridges public health practice and academia, enabling him to translate evidence into policy and practice.
Dr. Amenuvegbe holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Health and Allied Health Sciences, an MPhil in Applied Field Epidemiology, a Master of Public Health (MPH), and a Bachelor of Public Health (BPH), all from the University of Ghana. He also received professional training in Applied Epidemiology from Emory University (USA), the University of Nairobi (Kenya) and the Kintampo College of Health.
His research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology, vaccine implementation and acceptance, malaria control, immunization systems, disease surveillance and health programme evaluation. His doctoral research examined the expansion of routine vaccination programmes to adult populations using the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine implementation in Ghana as a case study.
Dr. Amenuvegbe has contributed to several national and international public health initiatives, including the development of Ghana's Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) Technical Guidelines, the WHO Polio Eradication Certification Programme, Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) assessments and evaluations of immunization information systems. He has also served as a consultant and trainer for the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ministries of Health in Ghana and Sierra Leone.
His scholarly work includes publications on malaria vaccination, COVID-19, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, mental health, immunization systems and disease surveillance. He has presented scientific papers at national and international conferences and has facilitated numerous capacity-building programmes for healthcare professionals in epidemiology, disease surveillance, immunization, HIV/AIDS, malaria control, and data management.
Dr. Amenuvegbe remains committed to strengthening public health systems through research, teaching, mentorship, and evidence-based policy development.
