I am a Population Health Scientist and currently serve as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Population and Behavioural Sciences at the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health (FNBSPH), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).In addition, I am an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of the People, USA and Unicaf University, Cyprus.
Education
I hold a PhD in Population and Health from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana (2020). I also obtained an International Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Liverpool John Moores University, UK (2022), a Master of Philosophy in Population and Health (2015) and a Bachelor of Arts in Population and Family Life (2012), all from UCC, Ghana.
Work Experience
I have taught at all three tiers of education. I began my career as a basic school teacher at Leads International Basic School and later taught at Mafi Kumase Senior High Technical School. I also served as a Teaching Assistant with the Department of Population and Health and as a Senior Tutor with the Institute of Distance Education, both at UCC. Beyond teaching, I worked briefly as a Reproductive Health Assistant with the South Tongu District Health Directorate.
Since joining UHAS in 2016, I have taught and examined several undergraduate and postgraduate Public Health courses, including Foundations of Population Studies, Research Methods, Change Interventions for Chronic Diseases, Health Promotion and Education and Social Determinants of Health.
I served as Graduate Programmes Coordinator of the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health, UHAS, from January 2023 to July 2026, coordinating postgraduate programme delivery in liaison with course lecturers and thesis supervisors at both Master's and PhD levels. I introduced structured monitoring systems, annual PhD progress presentation sessions and a PhD residency programme, which together contributed to improved postgraduate completion rates. I also facilitated the introduction of the Weekend Master of Public Health programme, the School's first modular Master's timetable, contributed to the re-accreditation of the School's postgraduate programmes and organized the first postgraduate programmes retreat in January 2026. Prior to this, I coordinated the School’s Vocational Training (VT) Programme, the UHAS–Yonsei University Partnership Project, and the CHPS+ Project. As VT Coordinator, I led the reorganisation of the programme by introducing innovations including a comprehensive VT manual for students, an elaborate training manual for VT preceptors, nationwide monitoring and supervision of students, and structured training for preceptors. I have supervised over 150 students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
I am a member of several international professional bodies, including the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), Health Systems Global, the American Psychological Association (APA), University Teachers Association of Ghana, Allied Health Professions Council, of Ghana and TDR Global.
Research Output
My areas of research interest include population health, chronic non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, social health insurance, HIV/AIDS and mental health. I have extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research and have served as a principal investigator, co-investigator, or field supervisor/coordinator on projects conducted by the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana Health Service, University of Cape Coast, Yonsei University (South Korea), Columbia University (UK) and the University of Southampton (UK).
I have over 170 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and have delivered several national and international conference presentations. On Google Scholar, my research has received over 44,000 citations, with an h-index of 60 and an i-10 index of 133. I have experience in grant writing and management, community engagement in research, project leadership and evaluation of health interventions.
I was ranked 5th at UHAS and 9th in Ghana in the 2026 AD Scientific Index global ranking of scientists. I was also listed among the Top 2% of scientists globally by Elsevier and Stanford University in 2025. I serve as an Academic Editor for several peer-reviewed journals, including PLOS One and Frontiers in Public Health.
