About Me

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Health Policy Planning and Management at the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Science, Ghana. I am also a Post Doctoral Fellow with the MARCAD Plus project since May 2024. Prior to joining the University as a full-time lecturer in December 2019, I was a part-time lecturer in April 2014. I lecture Public Health; Healthcare Systems in Ghana; Primary Health Care; Introduction to Public Health Policy and Public Health Programme Planning and Evaluation at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, I contribute to Advance Biostatistics, Foundations of Geographic Information System, Monitoring and Evaluation of Health Programmes.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I am currently a PhD holder with specialization in Health Policy and Management from the University of Ghana. I hold an MSc. Degree in Health Informatics from the University of Ghana, BSc. in Information and Communication Technology from the Presbyterian University College of Ghana and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Statistics from Kumasi Technical University (formally Kumasi Polytechnic), Ghana. 

SUMMARY OF WORK HISTORY

Prior to joining UHAS, I worked with the Volta Regional Health Directorate as the Regional Health Information Officer where I was actively involved in managing data, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating systems as well as conducting program evaluations at the district, regional and national levels. I also deployed, managed and implemented District Health Information Management System (DHIMS2) databases to track the flow of information within complex, multi-layered, geographically dispersed health service provision areas, placing a specific emphasis on data quality. I conducted numerous data quality audits for Policy Planning Monitoring & Evaluation Division and Malaria Control Programme of the Ghana Health Service. I also assisted to map out disease hotspots across the Volta Region for decision making in the health sector. I possess advanced knowledge on Geographic Information System use for disease risk mapping and information dissemination. I have expertise in statistical packages such as R, SPSS, Stata, Epinfo, Spectrum, ARGIS and QGIS. 

SUMMARY OF RESEARCH AREAS, PUBLICATIONS AND MEMBERSHIPS

My area of interest is in contemporary health policy issues, including public health interventions, monitoring and evaluation of maternal and child health programmes, maternal and child health malaria surveillance, data quality assessment, socio-economic effect on health outcomes and the adoption of electronic health application in data management. I am an active member of the Allied Health Professionals Council, Ghana and currently serving on the Professionals Specific Committee (PSC) for the past 7 years. I am an Examiner on the Licensure Examination Board for the Health Information Profession and have Fifteen (15) publications in peer-reviewed journals.
